Student Cancellations

  • Students must cancel two weeks in advance to the start date of their workshop or class to receive a full refund. Students who cancel less than two weeks, but more than one week prior to the start of their class or workshop will receive a credit towards another class/workshop.

  • Students who cancel less than one week prior to the start of their class or workshop will not receive a refund or credit.

  • There are no refunds for missed classes and workshops.

  • For workshops with visiting artists (who are often being flown in from out of state and provided lodging by the BJC), cancellations must be made five weeks prior to the first day of the workshop in order to receive a full refund. Any cancellation made between five and three weeks prior is eligible for a 50% credit toward a class, workshop, or rental. Any cancellation less than three weeks prior to the start of the workshop is not eligible for a credit.

Rental Cancellations

  • Renters must cancel two weeks in advance to the start date of their rental period to receive a full refund.

  • Renters who cancel less than two weeks up until the start of their rental period can apply their payment as credit.

  • There will be no refunds once a rental period has begun.

Weather

Class sessions may be cancelled due to inclement weather or other emergencies. In these situations, we make every reasonable effort to contact students and reschedule courses. Check the website, our Facebook page, or call 410.243.0479 for notifications regarding inclement weather.

Metal Shop Return Policy

All items at the Baltimore Jewelry Center Metal Shop are original handmade works and one-of-a-kind or limited editions. Items purchased online or at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are considered final sale.

The Baltimore Jewelry Center reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, or change any class or workshop, as circumstances such as low enrollment or instructor availability may warrant. Students registered for a class or workshop that is cancelled will receive a full refund for all tuition and fees paid for that class and/or have the right to reserve a spot in the next available class/workshop.

Baltimore Jewelry Center Code of Conduct

The Baltimore Jewelry Center is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students, instructors, staff, and visitors. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for behavior and provides guidance for addressing issues when they arise. We recognize that creating a respectful and inclusive community is an ongoing process. We are committed to learning, listening, and growing together.

This Code of Conduct applies to conduct within BJC facilities, programs, classes, exhibitions, events, and other BJC-sponsored activities, including BJC-related interactions that take place over email, social media, or other digital communication.

Community Values

  • Respect: Treat others with kindness, consideration, and empathy. Listen actively and communicate thoughtfully.

  • Inclusion: Embrace diversity and strive to create an environment where all feel welcome, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, socioeconomic status, or background.

  • Safety: Prioritize physical and emotional safety. Follow studio protocols and report unsafe conditions. Speak up or alert a staff member if you observe unsafe conditions or behavior.

  • Integrity: Be honest and accountable in your actions. Take responsibility for your impact on others and on the shared space.

Expected Behaviors

  • Follow all studio policies and procedures.

  • Use shared tools and equipment responsibly and clean up after yourself.

  • Treat communal spaces with care and be conscientious of others.

  • Respect others' personal space, work, belongings, and time.

  • Engage in constructive and respectful communication.

  • Support a positive learning environment.

Unacceptable Behaviors

  • Harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying, or hate speech of any kind.

  • Working with tools or equipment while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or any other substance or condition that makes their use unsafe.

  • Theft, vandalism, damage to, or destruction of personal property, studio equipment, tools, facilities, or materials.

  • Disruptive, reckless, or unsafe conduct, including but not limited to:

    • Physical or verbal intimidation;

    • Threats of violence or other threatening behavior;

    • Intentional misuse of tools, equipment, or facilities;

    • Actions that endanger the safety or well-being of others.

  • Retaliation against individuals who report concerns in good faith.

Reporting and Accountability

If you experience or witness conduct that concerns you or that may violate this Code of Conduct, you are encouraged to report it to a staff member, instructor, or Studio Monitor.

You do not need to determine whether the conduct constitutes a formal violation before raising a concern. If your concern involves the person you would normally report to, you may bring it to another staff member or a member of the BJC Board.

Reports will be taken seriously and handled with discretion and care.

When necessary to protect the immediate safety and well-being of our community, BJC staff may intervene, restrict access to tools or equipment, or require an individual to leave the studio, program, or event.

Violations may result in disciplinary action, including warnings, removal from the studio or an event, suspension or dismissal from programs, loss of studio access, or other appropriate measures. Responses will take into account the nature and severity of the conduct, the circumstances involved, and any relevant history of previous violations.
